London, UK. As industrial firms face rising operational costs, labour and skills shortages, and mounting performance pressures, the need to maximize asset uptime and adopt smarter, data-driven maintenance strategies is becoming critical. In response, the computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) market is gaining momentum, driven by a shift from outdated paper-based documentation to AI-powered solutions that deliver real-time visibility, to meet growing demands for efficiency, safety and compliance.

As firms seek CMMS solutions that minimize costly downtime and integrate with existing systems, vendors with industry expertise, a presence in asset-intensive industries, and the ability to support different technology users across functions are experiencing rising demand. The market is seeing steady growth, shaped by a mix of established enterprise asset management (EAM) providers and newer, more agile entrants. Large vendors dominate with scalable, enterprise-grade solutions, but their slower pace of innovation has allowed for modern CMMS-first platforms to emerge, offering advanced tools, AI capabilities and greater usability. This has created a bifurcated market, with large vendors leading in scale and integration for asset-intensive industries, while smaller, innovative players attract mid-market firms seeking flexible, cost-effective solutions that can adapt to evolving operational needs.

The inaugural Verdantix Green Quadrant: Industrial Computerized Maintenance Management (CMMS) (2025) report provides heads of maintenance and engineering, as well as plant managers, with comprehensive insights into 19 CMMS software providers, helping them select the best-fit provider based on their needs. The report identifies Brightly Software, eMaint, Eptura, Fiix by Rockwell Automation, IBM, Limble and MaintainX as market leaders, demonstrating the most advanced and comprehensive CMMS capabilities. Key report findings show that:

  • Vendors are implementing AI co-pilots that improve the user experience by automating routine tasks, generating real-time reports and guiding technicians through work orders. For example, MaintainX has built-in AI capabilities that improve maintenance efficiency and decision-making through smart work order creation and by identifying performance deviations.

  • As organizations face labour shortages and skills gaps, many are turning to CMMS solutions to better allocate resources, retain knowledge and reduce inefficiencies through a single platform. IBM’s Maximo Maintenance Essentials offers advanced workforce scheduling tools that help balance workloads, align work orders with certified technicians, and manage asset and team calendars.

  • Centralizing maintenance and asset data has become a critical priority for firms seeking greater visibility, coordination and control. Vendors such as Eptura offer strong asset information management capabilities through a user-friendly system for tracking assets. This helps firms eliminate data silos, improve cross-departmental collaboration and streamline maintenance workflows.

  • Vendors are differentiating through seamless integrations and strategic partnerships that enable connected, data-driven maintenance. Brightly’s Asset Essentials, when integrated with Energy Manager, delivers a unified platform to monitor asset performance and energy efficiency, helping organizations identify equipment-related energy waste and reduce utility costs.

  • Maximizing asset uptime and reducing maintenance costs remain top priorities for CMMS buyers. Vendors such as Pragma offer robust asset monitoring capabilities that capture real-time data, to support usage-based maintenance strategies and streamline operational workflows.

“Industrial sectors face mounting pressures from a retiring workforce, challenges in hiring skilled maintenance personnel and escalating supply chain costs. The imperative now is to go beyond paper-based data collection, to actionable insights that enable smarter maintenance decisions through AI and advanced analytics. As a result, we’re seeing a shift in the market, where smaller CMMS vendors are prioritizing advanced AI capabilities alongside core functionality, to gain market share,” said Josh Graessle, Senior Analyst at Verdantix. “To stay competitive, vendors must not only embed AI-driven functionality at the core of their platforms, but invest in seamless integrations that connect systems across the enterprise. Automation within the software is no longer optional – it’s essential for driving efficiency, reducing downtime and addressing the core maintenance challenges faced by buyers.”
