Executive Summary
January 2025 should have been a point to toast progress on near-term net zero climate targets. But that will not happen: our previous predictions of net zero delays have come true. Instead, this will be the year when ‘Paris’ officially falls, when the agonies of the trade-offs from climate change hit, and in which we celebrate even small, incremental climate advances, in the teeth of Trumpian retreat and protectionism. The upcoming year will be one of hard, but constructive, work on fronts such as renewables, grid modernization, Scope 2 accounting, asset-level decarbonization and climate finance. With this in mind, and analysing trends in the net zero and energy transition spaces covered by Verdantix, we have made 10 predictions for the year, spanning climate targets, carbon management technologies, renewable procurement, climate regulations, and more. If you work in the climate space, read these predictions to look around the metaphorical corner, and prepare for what 2025 will bring.About the Authors
